Why Musikgarten?
In a world so replete with be-alone activities, playing together musically is an ideal medium for families to grow together.
Music is a language, and children instinctively recognize spoken language as
communication. In class, we work with caregivers on playful ways to interact musically, even if the caregiver doesn’t feel like they are musically gifted.
All children are musical.
Children are innately musical and have an inborn ability to sing and move rhythmically. Every voice has the ability to sing, every moving body has the ability to move rhythmically. The key is to experience music early in life with a loving companion.
Research and experience tell us that the earlier a child is in an environment of active music-making, the more likely that child’s inborn musicality will be awakened and developed. When surrounded by music and musical environment, children learn to make music both freely and naturally.
Music makes a difference.
Music improves overall development, decreases learning problems, and enhances brain functioning – all in a learning environment that fosters the building of community. Through music we touch the whole child and can make a positive impact on the child and family.
Musikgarten lays the foundation for lifelong music participators. Classes continue with Cycle of Seasons, a beautiful curriculum for Preschool children, followed by a group piano class, Musikmakers for 5 to 8 year olds.
Class FAQ's for Musikgarten Music Classes for Babies & Toddlers
What is expected of the caregiver in class?
Caregivers are encouraged to participate through clapping, tapping, shaking, bouncing the child, singing, shaking scarves, and being playful. All these simple activities help create a musical environment, that give children the courage to make music, even at an early age. We ask that the adults show how to do the activities rather than tell the children what to do.
What is expected of the baby?
Babies are invited to sit in their caregivers lap or the floor and absorb the activities. They are expected to put the shakers in their mouths and perhaps try shaking them occasionally. They may giggle and smile, or they may be very shy. This is a great time to begin classes as they begin to organize the world around them.
What is expected of the toddler?
When toddlers begin to move - they do what they need to do - move! Toddlers, especially ones who have been coming to class frequently, will begin to explore the space. But they are still observing and absorbing everything. They will continue to benefit from a room full of adults playing and singing. Playfully bring them back to the circle. Adults may observe quiet or seemingly inattentive children in music class, but home they may begin to sing.
Can I take video or photos?
Please take video and photos - but sparingly. Sometimes it's difficult to do the activity and film.

Kind Words from Musikgarten Families
"In my opinion Rachel’s class is superior to what’s usually on offer in the area. One of the things that makes Rachel’s class special is how knowledgeable she is about child development. She crafts her classes not just for the kids, but to educate the caregivers on how to reach their kids through music." -A. Frauenglass
"We are so grateful for the wonderful music class our daughter was able to take with Rachel. It was such a joy to watch her grow more confident and expressive each week—singing along, listening closely, and engaging with the music in her own thoughtful way. The class nurtured not only her love of music, but also her focus, coordination, and comfort participating in a group.
Most of all, our daughter absolutely adored Rachel. Her warmth, patience, and comforting presence made the class feel like a safe and joyful place to explore and learn. It had a truly meaningful impact on her development, and we are deeply thankful for the care and intention Mrs. Rachel brings to her teaching." -D. Key
